Common Questions

Recognizing the absence of and need for a permanent Youth Centre building, the Gimli Youth Centre Capital Fund Raising Committee was created by unanimous support from the RM of Gimli Council through the establishment of By-law No. 21-0011. The primary objective of this committee made up of Gimli community volunteers, including youth, is to create the overall plan for the construction of this new building that will be named the Gimli Youth Hub. This will occur by raising the necessary funds through sponsorships, donations, grants, and in-kind material or manual labour contributions to see this important initiative come to fruition as soon as possible.

The building will be constructed at the Skate Park location on Centennial Road in Gimli where a storage building currently exists and will get moved. This location was selected due to its proximity to schools, the skate park, and the Aquatic and Recreation Centre. The location is also ideal for the Gimli Recreation Centre to
have effective oversight of the building and to assist with the ongoing collaborative use by the various youth user groups and organizations that plan to use this facility for their programming.

Updates to the exterior and interior building plans will be posted at gimliyouthhub.ca

The building size will be 50x60 feet (3,000 square feet) with a 12 foot interior ceiling height. The interior layout of the building is being designed to properly accommodate the various intended programming for the Gimli Youth Hub youth.

The estimated building construction cost being fundraised for is $350,000. This cost does not include any of the required interior assets such as leisure and recreational games, desks, chairs, tables, small kitchen appliances and supplies, etc.. Some of the required assets already exist for use, while others will be made possible through various fundraising initiatives and grants led by the youth groups and organizations that intend to utilize this facility.

Construction of the building will commence once the capital fundraising campaign obtains the required funds to move forward. The committee is hopeful to break ground and commence construction by 2024.

Yes, there are currently two local youth organizations that are involved in this initiative and plan to facilitate ongoing programming in the Gimli Youth Hub once it’s built. This facility will also be made available for use by any local youth organization or group that supports the vision, mission, and values of the Gimli Youth Hub.

The committee’s capital fundraising campaign will be facilitated through these various channels; newly created website, promotional print material, direct mail, draws, in-person contacts, and a special fundraiser event. The planned soft launch date of the fundraising campaign is the beginning of June 2023 at which time the Gimli Youth Hub’s new informative website will also go live.

Donations can be made directly through the gimliyouthhub.ca website, and by mail, or in-person to the RM of Gimli Municipal Office (P.O. Box 1246, 62-2nd Avenue Gimli, MB R0C 1B0). All funds received will be deposited and overseen by the RM of Gimli Municipal Office.

Yes, the RM of Gimli will issue a tax receipt upon request for donations made of $20.00 or more.
